| The short-story of the 9th International Conference on Solid-State and Integrated-Circuit Technology in Beijing |
| Saturday, November 08, 2008 |
Our advisor; Prof. Yeong-Her Wang, Dr. Kuan-Wei Lee, and me went to Beijing at October 19 - 24, 2008. We has been attended one of the bi-annual event i.e. the 9th International Conference on Solid-State and Integrated-Circuit Technology organized by IEEE Beijing Section, Chinese Institute of Electronics (CIE), IEEE Electron Devices Society, and IEEE EDS Beijing Chapter. This conference will provided an international forum for the presentation and discussion of recent advances in solid-state and integrated circuit technology. I would like to thank you, if you check one of my pictures in this event. This picture shows author standing in front of Grand-Ball room of the conference. I went also to Beijing’s Olympic stadium.

I was presented a paper in oral session which the title of ZnO Nanorods on Plastic Substrate from Zinc Nitrate Hexahydrate and Hexamethylenetetramine Solution. Actually, this is my old data and of course; only preliminary research, and therefore, further investigation is certainly needed. I have got no confidence. I was argued about this to my wife, and she said to me that if you feel that your paper will not important for other person then you feel low, your confidence goes down. Ok, let's move to the title of my paper !!! I will give you the short story of my paper. In this paper, I had been grown the ZnO nanorods with a typical diameter of 0.3 mm and a rod length of 3.0 mm on a polyethylene terephthalate plastic substrate were prepared through the solution route method. The hexagonal structure with (100) and (101) reflection peaks were dominant for all the films. I also proved that the surface morphology strongly depends on the HMT concentration. The main elements of Zn and O atoms performed with excellent binding energy on the surface. Moreover, atomic force microscopy study of the surface indicates that the main precursor of Zn(OH)2 has an important role in the decomposition process between zinc nitrate hexahydrate and HMT. You can also found from my paper that the activation process at the higher hydrolysis of NaOH released plenty of OH- into the solution, thus enabling the deposition of ZnO nanorods. I pleased you know to check one of my data as shown in this figure.

| Scanning Electron Microscopy of ZnO nanorods on plastic substrate |
| Tuesday, June 03, 2008 |
Last week, I have been measured my samples by Hitachi - S4100 high resolution scanning electron microscopy machine.
We have three samples with difference conditions. In my experiment, the zinc nitrate hexahydrate and hexamethylenetetramine were employed as parent solutions. The substrate was used on an ITO-laminated plastic substrate of polyethylene terephthalate. The morphology of the films was further adjusted by using NaOH solution. The NaOH solution concentration was kept at 0.1 mol/liter in a 2 ml volume. The microphotographs of the films are shown in figure below. It was found that our films with 2 ml NaOH show a tip-nanorods morphology with a typical diameter of 0.3 micrometer and a rod length of 3.0 micrometer. This result indicates that the ZnO with nanorods structure has been successfully grown on plastic substrate. I believe that the control dimension and morphology in ZnO nanorods is critical issues for the fabrication of plastic electronic and optical plastic nanodevices.

| Growth of ZnO by Liquid Phase Deposition |
| Friday, April 04, 2008 |
ZnO is semiconductor with an energy band gap of 3.2 eV at 300K. Recently, ZnO has become attractive for surface acoustic wave devices solar cells, gas sensors, integrated acuosto-optic, and acuosto-electric. Until recently, ZnO thin films have mainly been prepared by RF magnetron sputtering, metalorganic chemical deposition, thermal evaporation, and spin coating.
In Advanced Material and Devices Laboratory, Institute of Microelectronics, Department of Electrical Engineering, National Cheng Kung University, Tainan, Taiwan, Republic of China,I was studied the growths of ZnO thin films by using liquid phase deposition (LPD). My advisor was supported me to study ZnO semiconductor material aspect for the application to flexible electronics and optoelectronics.
Actually, it is first time to study in chemical aspect of growth ZnO thin films. Since 1995, I has been growth ZnO thin films by MOCVD method. The LPD method is one of the solution-based methods or wet processes such as sol-gel method suitable for large scale production and good step coverage of the surface. The LPD method has several advantages such as low temperature growth, low-cost, and simple process. For versatile optoelectronics and electronics devices applications especially in soft electronics, ZnO thin films can be grown on plastic substrate by LPD method for flexible electronics applications. To this date, however, a limited amount of works have been reported on the growth of ZnO on plastic substrate by LPD method. |

| My Curriculum Vitae |
|
Material technology is an industry that has changed our lives. In a very short period it has changed the way we have looked at things since centuries. It is one industry that is going to shape our future for centuries to come. Hence my desire to do master’s in applied physics with semiconductor physics as my major at Physics Department, Institute of Technology Bandung. My research interest is study the properties of surfaces at the atomic level especially material technology for electronic devices during my high school years. It was the time when technology had begun to make an impact on the lives of people in Indonesia.
Since middle 2004, I was contacted to potential PhD advisor from overseas. I need to continue a research activity in Semiconductor Physics Laboratory, Physics Department, Sebelas Maret University. I pleased you know that I was got the competitive research grant. In this research, my position is a principle investigator. I was found that the Advanced Material and Devices Laboratory, Institute of Microelectronics, Department of Electrical Engineering, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) is one of the suitable place for my PhD study.
My decision to pursue doctorate study in this laboratory is underscored by my desire to be a part of the graduate program at this institution. The NCKU offers the flexibility needed for such a vast and rapidly changing field. The research facilities and the faculty member at this university are excellent.

| The Mid-Autumn Festival is coming..... |
| Friday, October 06, 2006 |
"Dear All, Do you know there is one festival named " Mid-Autumn Festival "?! It's one of the important holidays in the Chinese calendar. This year the special festival is on Friday (Oct. 6)....." this is fragment of an e-mail from Miss Stacy Lin from Academic Coordination Division, National Cheng-Kung University of Taiwan.
Mr. Bode, the old room-mate, and me go together to Yunping Building for pick-up the special cake. Actually, the Mid-Autumn Festival is a traditional festivity for both the Han and minority nationalities. The ubiquitous fare at any Chinese celebration of the Full Moon festival, mooncakes are a flaked pastry stuffed with a wide variety of fillings. Egg Yolk, lotus seed paste, red bean paste, and coconut are common, but walnuts, dates, and other fillings can be found as well. Most have characters for longevity or harmony inscribed on the top. Special cakes can reach almost one foot in diameter.
It's wonderfull celebration !!!

| Flexible transparent ZnO as future electronic devices |
| Friday, September 22, 2006 |

Zinc oxide is a key electronic and photonic materials and is particularly promosing in naodevice because of its wide bandgap of 3.37 eV in room temperature, have large exciton binding energy, and also can be grown on selected substrate. Therefore, ZnO have wide range applications such as blue-, violet, uv-LED, transparent electrode in electronic display, laser diode, and also photodetector. After this time, ZnO has been grown by wide range technique such as metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD), molecular beam epitaxy (MBE), plused laser depostion (LPD), sputtering method, but these technique have limited growth temperature. In 1998, our laboratory (Dr. Wilson W Wenas, Feri Adriyanto, and Hanny F Sangian) i.e. Semiconductor Research Laboratory, Physics Department, Institute of Technology Bandung was reported high growth rate ZnO with low temperature by using MOCVD machine. (see detail in http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/iel5/6409/17129/00791652.pdf). One of the technique for low temperature growth is liquid phase deposition (LPD). Therefore, ZnO is the best candidate of flexible transparent material and is suitable for flexible transparent electronic device. Welcome to the ZnO transparent electrode material in the electronic-plastic century ! |
